Faculty Fellowships

The race for talent has never been run at a faster pace. Universities are continually searching for ways to recruit and retain the best and brightest. The UNCW Cameron School of Business (CSB) strives to retain top-notch faculty with externally funded CSB Faculty Fellowships critical to that effort.

The fellowships allow Seahawks to directly learn in the classroom from thought leaders across business disciplines. Key supporters of this initiative include Mr. James R. Dr. Donald Barnes
Dr. Donald Barnes | Hendrick Faculty Fellow

The nation’s leader in publications within academic literature on customer delight, Dr. Barnes works with the UNCW Center for Sales Excellence & Customer Delight’s sales center partners to incorporate cutting-edge practices in their organizations. At the undergraduate level, he teaches marketing research and services marketing while his graduate level courses include strategic marketing and customer delight.

Tom Downen, Ph.D., CPA
Tom Downen, Ph.D., CPA | RSM Faculty Fellow

A specialist on how judgment and decision making interact with financial reporting, Dr. Downen teaches a variety of UNCW financial and managerial accounting courses. He has more than 16 publications in referred academic and professional journals, including a methodological tutorial for behavioral researchers that has been downloaded more than 5,500 times.

Allison Evans, Ph.D., CPA
Allison Evans, Ph.D., CPA | EY Faculty Fellow

A leader in UNCW’s tax services track, Dr. Evans has established herself as both a subject matter expert in taxation and an exceptional classroom teacher. In addition to receiving the Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the North Carolina Association of CPAs Outstanding Educator Award, Dr. Evans has been selected by the graduating class as the Outstanding Faculty Member in the Master of Science in Accountancy program five times.

Gaurav Gupta, Ph.D., CMA, CFE
Gaurav Gupta, Ph.D., CMA, CFE | EY Faculty Fellow

The department’s managerial accounting offerings leader, Dr. Gupta is renowned for his passion and creativity in the classroom. He serves as a co-advisor to Beta Alpha Psi and on the MSA Committee. Dr. Gupta recently developed UNCW’s first course in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Forensic Accounting Research and has more than 15 publications in five years.

Kevin Hale, Ph.D., CPA
Kevin Hale, Ph.D., CPA | FORVIS Faculty Fellow

The former Controller for the East Carolina University Athletics Pirate Club before earning his doctorate in accounting from Virginia Tech, Dr. Hale has quickly built a reputation as a key ambassador for the major by teaching the first course in the accounting concentration. His research focuses on judgment and decision making in financial reporting and auditing with his work appearing in two elite academic journals, Accounting Horizons and Issues in Accounting Education.

Victoria Hansen, Ph.D., CPA
Victoria Hansen, Ph.D., CPA | Elwood and Mary Walker Faculty Fellow

Dr. Hansen worked extensively in public accounting, including as a tax manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, prior to beginning her academic career. Her research focuses on taxpayer and tax preparer judgment and decision making. Her work is regularly published in top-tier academic journals. She recently tied for second among all experimental tax researchers in the Brigham Young University Author Ranking, which considers the previous six years of journal citations and publications.

Jenny Parlier, Ph.D., CPA
Jenny Parlier, Ph.D., CPA | EY Faculty Fellow

Working in public accounting for more than a decade and rising to Audit Senior Manager with BDO in Charlotte, Dr. Parlier then pursued her doctorate in accounting at Virginia Tech. At UNCW, she has primary responsibility for undergraduate and graduate auditing courses, bringing her real-world experience into the classroom. Her research focuses on helping CPA practitioners and UNCW students be more effective auditors.

Ursula Ramsey, J.D.
Ursula Ramsey, J.D. | FORVIS Faculty Fellow

A graduate from the University of Tennessee College of Law, Dr. Ramsey served as Associate General Counsel at Pilot Flying J prior to her academic career. On UNCW’s campus, she has developed an International Business Law course and a fully online Business Law course for MBA students. Her research focuses on Professional Employer Organizations and has led to publications in the Berkely Business Law Journal, the Journal of Accountancy and Tax Notes.
