No matter how big or small the amount, the impact is immense.
For nearly 60 years, the Friends of UNCW board has awarded grants for special projects based on UNCW faculty and staff proposals.
“I love what this group does,” said the President of the Friends of UNCW, Koula Katsikis. “We’re involved with students, professors and the community. We’re involved in a lot of little things that can make a big impact. Just a little bit of money can go a long way.”
In May, the Friends held their annual grant awards ceremony and recognized the 24 projects that will receive this year’s funds. For some Seahawks, their experiences have been forever changed through these funds.
“This grant is great and impactful, but it’s more than money,” said Professor of Sociology and Criminology Dr. Kimberly Cook. “It’s also a morale boost. This provides an uplift for us when times are hard. So truly, thank you.”
