In celebration of #GivingTuesday, the worldwide movement of generosity and support, the University of North Carolina Wilmington community came together to raise an impressive $93,652 to enhance the Seahawk experience.
More than 407 Seahawk supporters – including alumni, current parents, students, employees, and friends – stepped up to make 573 gifts and impact 157 different funds. Of the gifts made, 70 first-time donors participated to contribute to this record giving day that boasted more than a 15 percent increase in both donors and gifts in comparison to the 2023 event.
“This year alone donor support has helped UNCW achieve national accolades for community engagement, allowed students, faculty and staff the opportunity to excel in research and innovation and complete the renovation and expansion of the UNCW Library,” said Ellie Barker, UNCW Director of Annual Giving. “These milestones wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support and investment of our donors.”
The 2024 #GivingTuesday event also marked the conclusion of the TEALstarter campaigns, the UNCW crowdfunding platform that gives student organizations and campus groups the opportunity to raise funds for initiatives that enhance the UNCW Seahawk experience. Featuring 12 student-led campaigns – from academic groups exploring study-abroad opportunities to athletic clubs needing new equipment – the 2024 TEALstarter campaigns were collectively supported by more than 349 donors and raised more than $30,000.
“Every contribution, regardless of size, plays a vital role in advancing student success, fostering innovation and enhancing our community,” said Barker. “When Seahawks soar together, the possibilities are endless.”
